Research We Fund
Your generous support enables us to fund research annually, in locations across the globe. We fund projects across the research pipeline, from basic research through clinical trials, and our support has led to several potential treatments currently in clinical trials.
AMP ALS
ALS United, along with its dedicated members, has taken a significant step in the battle against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) by collectively supporting the Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP) ALS initiative. This groundbreaking project aims to expedite the development of effective treatments for ALS, providing hope and progress for those affected by this relentless disease.
The AMP ALS initiative is designed to address the critical challenges faced in ALS research, including disease heterogeneity, segmented research efforts, and the need for standardized tools. By establishing a central ALS Knowledge Platform and validating biomarkers, AMP ALS aims to improve clinical outcome assessments and discover new therapeutic targets. The initiative's comprehensive approach promises to accelerate the development of life-saving therapies and improve patient outcomes.
ALS Research Innovation Program
The ALS Network, a member of ALS United, has partnered with other ALS United member organizations to launch an initiative to directly fund research. Together, we are powering progress to cure ALS.
The ALS Research Innovation Program provides innovation grants to fund novel yet scientifically rigorous ideas that can transform our understanding of ALS. Our seed funding to establish proof of concept for new scientific approaches potentially positions these visionary projects for larger-scale funding in the future, such as government grants. In addition, our nimble “pitch session” approach to vet unique projects accelerates the application process, removing red tape and moving promising science forward faster.
Still in its first year, the ALS Research Innovation Program has established a world-class Scientific Advisory Committee, approved four projects for funding, and funded two of the four approved projects. (The other two approved projects are currently in the contracting phase with funds to be dispersed accordingly.) A public-facing Request for Proposals launches in the spring of 2025 and will significantly expand the portfolio of funded projects.
