Speakers

Kim Hughes is the Content Director of Your ALS Guide. She has worked in the ALS community for over 20 years. While serving as Director of Care Services for The ALS Association Arizona Chapter from 2004 to 2016, Kim worked with thousands of families, conducted home visits, facilitated support groups, served on ALS clinic teams, and managed equipment loan closets. Kim then partnered with one of her families to create a practical website for families impacted by ALS. Your ALS Guide launched in 2017.

Lynette Strode is the Program Manager for the Demonstration Center, Device Loan Program, ICC Program, and Special Projects at the Illinois Assistive Technology Program (IATP), where she has worked for 21 years. Her role involves overseeing various programs aimed at helping individuals find devices that improve their quality of life, which she finds highly rewarding.

Lynette has lived globally due to her family’s military background, has two children, and enjoys reading and traveling. Prior to IATP, she worked for Springfield School District 186, assisting at-risk children and their families in accessing services and resources.

John Bookstaver is a retired college chemistry professor and administrator in St. Louis. He was the primary caregiver for his late wife, Kathy, for almost two years, progressing from helping keep her safe and driving her to appointments to eventually doing everything for her.  He is proud that he was able to keep her at home throughout her journey.

He now enjoys woodworking and singing in the choir at St. Francis Xavier (College) Church on the campus of St. Louis University.
