May is ALS Awareness Month, a time to come together and raise awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Throughout the month, ALS United Greater Chicago is dedicated to spreading awareness and support for those affected by this devastating disease. Show solidarity with the ALS community and contribute to ongoing research and support initiatives. Together, let’s raise awareness, funds, and hope for a future without ALS.

  1. Join Walk ALS Chicago: Register to participate in the Walk ALS Chicago event on June 1st. Gather your friends, family, and coworkers to form a team and fundraise together. Learn more.
  2. Host a DIY Fundraiser: Visit our DIY fundraising page to create your own fundraising event or campaign. Whether it’s a bake sale, a charity run, or a virtual event, every effort counts towards supporting ALS research and services.
  3. Share Your Story: Share your personal connection to ALS on social media using #ALSawarenessmonth. Your story can inspire others to get involved and raise awareness about the impact of ALS on individuals and families.
  4. Attend an Educational Webinar: Register for an upcoming informational webinar or watch a past recording. Learn about the latest advancements in ALS research, caregiving strategies, and advocacy efforts. Attend “Supporting the Unsung Heroes: Children and Youth of ALS Warriors” on May 7th. Register here.
  5. Volunteer for Events: Sign up to volunteer at ALS awareness events, care programs, and fundraising activities throughout the month. Your time and dedication are invaluable in making these events successful. Join Lou’s Crew.
  6. Cheer on Your Team at Lou Gehrig Day: Show your support for Lou Gehrig Day on May 26th with the Sox or June 2nd with the Cubs.
  7. Attend Support Groups: Individuals living with ALS and ALS caregivers are invited to attend ALS support group to connect with others who understand what you’re going through. Share experiences, receive support, and learn coping strategies from fellow participants. Learn more.
  8. Advocate for ALS Research Funding: Contact your elected representatives to advocate for increased funding for ALS research and access to care. Your voice can make a difference in advancing ALS research and improving patient outcomes. Become an ALS advocate.
